Low-iron or standard float?
Specify low-iron glass
On standard 6mm float glass this colour will not look like the chip. Float glass contains iron, which gives it a faint green cast, easy to see at the edge of a pane and, through a pale colour, across the whole face: a white goes faintly green-cream, a pale blue drifts towards sea green. How a painted splashback is made
6mm glass, toughened for the heat behind a hob, with the sockets and the hob notch cut before toughening, then painted on the back so the colour sits behind a glass surface that wipes clean. The colour you see is the paint through the glass, which is why the base glass matters and why the surface is always gloss.
