Our target — WCAG 2.1 AA across the site
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA across this website. That is the standard UK public bodies are held to, and we think a glass merchant should not aim lower.
In plain terms, we want the site to work if you use a keyboard rather than a mouse, if you use a screen reader, if you need to zoom in a long way, if you cannot easily distinguish certain colours, or if you are on a phone with one hand full.
We treat accessibility as a build requirement rather than a clean-up job: it is checked automatically before changes go live, not audited once a year.
What we've done so far
- Automated checks on every build. Every static public page — the home page, the shop and category pages, the tools, the trade pages, and these legal pages — is loaded and tested against the WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules on every change. A page with a serious or critical problem fails the build and does not ship.
- Keyboard and focus. Interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator.
- Touch targets. Controls and links are sized for real fingers rather than a mouse pointer.
- Structure. Pages use real headings in order, and long documents like this one carry a linked section index at the top so you can jump straight to the part you need instead of scrolling through all of it.
- Contrast and dark mode. Colours come from a single controlled palette, checked for contrast, and the site follows your light or dark preference.
- Plain UK English. We write in plain language, including on pages like this one, because unreadable copy is an accessibility problem too.
- Performance. We hold the main pages to a performance and accessibility score target, because a page that takes forever to become usable is not usable.
Known limitations
We would rather tell you where we are weaker than claim we are finished.
- Automated testing does not cover everything. Automated rules catch a meaningful share of problems, not all of them. Some issues can only be found by a person using the site with assistive technology, and we have not yet commissioned a full independent audit.
- Some pages are outside the automated sweep. Individual product, article and order-tracking pages, the basket once it has items in it, and the checkout are not covered by the automatic per-build check, because they need a live order or session to exist. They are built from the same components as the pages that are covered, but they are not separately verified on every change.
- The staff and admin area is not covered by the public accessibility sweep. If you work with us and need an adjustment there, tell us and we will sort it directly.
- The 3D preview and the configurator are visual tools by nature. The same job can always be quoted and ordered by talking to us, and we will do the configuring at our end.
- PDF documents — quotes, invoices, drawings — are generated for print and are not fully tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will give you the information in another format.
How to report an accessibility problem
If something on this site does not work for you, please tell us at shop@sw-glass.co.uk or call us on 0207 751 0011. You will get a reply from a named person within one business day.
It helps if you can tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, what happened instead, and what you are using — a screen reader, keyboard only, high zoom, and so on. If that is more effort than it is worth, just tell us what went wrong; we will work it out.
We will not leave you stuck while we fix it. Anything you can do on this site you can do by phone or in person at a branch — pricing a piece of glass, placing an order, arranging delivery, sorting out a problem.
If you have reported something and are not happy with how we handled it, use the Complaints page.
