Shower screen sizes: bath screens and enclosure panels
The sizes the standard ranges are sold in, so you can see whether your opening is one of them, and what happens when it is not: a made-to-measure panel, cut to the opening, in the glass the configurator allows for shower use.
The standard sizes
Bath screens, panels, doors and enclosures
Nominal sizes as the ranges are sold; a real product is usually a few millimetres under its nominal width to allow for the profile. The glass column is not typed on this page: it is the configurator’s own rule for that product family, so what the table says and what the configurator will price are the same thing.

What the configurator enforces
The rules for shower glass
Thickness
A fixed panel is made in 8mm or 10mm; a door and its side panel in 8mm or 10mm. The workshop’s default pick is 8mm toughened: 8mm toughened is the wetroom standard; 10mm for frameless.
Toughened
Required on every shower family, so the option cannot be turned off. BS EN 14428 requires safety glass in a shower enclosure, and toughened is what the trade fits.
Hinge cut-outs
You give the count and the positions; the shape of each cut-out comes from the hinge product's own drilling sheet, never from a guess. Toughened glass cannot be drilled, notched or trimmed after it is toughened, so the hinge is chosen before the glass is cut, and the door's hang side is part of the order.
Seal deduction
A seal is a fixed deduction off the cut width, none off the height. The spec's own example: ordered 700 x 2000mm with a 6mm seal is cut 694 x 2000mm. The figure comes from the seal you choose and is printed on the drawing.
Tolerance and the drawing
We cut to plus or minus 2mm, and every order is confirmed with a dimensioned drawing before anything is made. On a screen that tolerance is taken up by the seal and the profile.
Above the online size
A panel larger than the configurator prices online is routed to a quote rather than refused, and a tall narrow panel past the toughening aspect ratio is flagged before you order. Nothing is priced that the workshop cannot make.
When yours is not standard
What to measure
- The width of the opening the panel crosses, at the tray, at waist height and at the top; order to the smallest.
- The height from the tray lip or the wetroom floor to the top of the panel, at both ends; use the smaller.
- How far out of plumb the wall is over the panel height, so the profile can take it up.
- The make of the hinges, clamps or profile, and the position of every fixing, before the glass is toughened.
- Whether you are giving us the opening (we deduct for the fittings) or the glass size (you already have).

What are standard shower screen sizes in the UK?
Bath screens are sold at 700mm to 800mm wide and about 1400mm to 1500mm tall; walk-in wetroom panels at 700mm to 1200mm wide and 1850mm to 2000mm tall; hinged doors at 700mm to 1000mm; sliding enclosures at 1000mm to 1700mm; quadrants at 800mm to 1200mm. The table on this page lists them by product. Anything between those figures is a made-to-measure panel, which is most bathrooms.
What thickness glass is a shower screen?
8mm or 10mm, toughened for a fixed bath or wetroom panel and 8mm or 10mm, toughened for a door and its side panel: the thicker pick for a frameless panel held at a few points. Those are the configurator's own rules for the shower families, and it will not price a shower panel in anything else.
Does a shower screen have to be toughened?
Yes. BS EN 14428 requires shower enclosures to be glazed in safety glass, and toughened is the glass the trade uses. The configurator's shower families require it, so the option cannot be turned off; and because toughened glass cannot be cut, drilled or notched afterwards, every hinge and clamp position has to be settled before the panel is toughened.
What size should I order if my opening is not standard?
The opening, measured the way the measuring guide describes: three widths, two heights, the smallest of each, and a note of which fittings you are using. Tell us the opening and the fittings and the workshop takes the seal and profile deduction off; or give us the exact glass size if you have already allowed for it, and say which of the two you are giving us.
How much smaller than the opening is the glass?
By whatever the seal or the profile takes up. A bottom seal, for instance, is a fixed deduction off the cut width and none off the height: ordered 700 x 2000mm with a 6mm seal is cut 694 x 2000mm. The deduction comes from the seal product you choose, never from a guess, and it is printed on the drawing you confirm before anything is cut.
